Vital energy is that which fills the Universe and everything in the Universe is made of it. Limbs and trunk move the human body but the motive of that movement is vital energy. The human body whether full, lacking or imbalanced in energy may result in pain or disease.

All living creatures maintain their lives by breathing. "Something" invisible comes in and out through the nostrils and its continuous movement enables living creatures to maintain their lives. So breathing can be said to represent the phenomena of life. From ancient times, this "something" which comes in and out during breathing has been called "Gi" or vital energy in the East.

Today many domestic and foreign scientists are studying the existence, operation and applications of Gi. Scientific researches show that Gi is the basic unit of the Universe and has no concrete shape but exists in the forms of wavelengths.

Many scientists of other countries have paid much attention to Gi and studied it. They found that there exists a fifth force, or torsion field, in addition to gravity, strong forces, weak forces and electro-magnetic forces in nature. They have also experimented on areas of Gi therapy. Kendal Johnson in the U.S. showed through an experiment that clearer auras can be observed from fully relaxed bodies by means of meditation and that the auras of patients get clearer after they receive Gi therapy.

Doctor Hwang, Jun Sik, who was a professor of the college of medicine at Seoul University, measured the skin temperatures of subjects before and after they did Danjeon breathing. It was found that the temperatures of the face, neck, arms etc. were considerably reduced by Danjeon breathing. As a result, it was proved that Danjeon breathing relaxes the skin and muscles of the body and makes the blood circulation smooth.

Lee, Gyeong Hye of the department of nursing science at Ihwa Women's University did research on 56 subjects who complained of unpleasant symptoms of menstruation. She put half of them through a 4 week program of Danjeon breathing. She found that the subjects who did Danjeon breathing had the unpleasant symptoms remarkably reduced.
